Dear Congress Member:
Last year, in the 2006 Midterm election we the voters made clear that healthcare is our #1 domestic priority. 83% of those polled said they wanted a government-supported national healthcare system.
And yet, the insurance and pharmaceutical corporations have continued to raise prices, their own profits, and their controls over doctors and patients, denying healthcare and even killing people, imposing a terrible crisis on all of us. In fact we are suffering the most urgent healthcare crisis in the history of any advanced nation in the world.
Some members of Congress are ready to take action. Senator Sherrod Brown has made a courageous commitment to the American people. He says that he will not use his publicly funded healthcare paid for by the citizens until every one in the United States has it too. Congressman John Conyers has introduced an extremely good healthcare bill, H.R. 676, the United States National Health Insurance Act which would provide quality guaranteed healthcare to every single person in the United States -- much better quality and much less costly care. We would all contribute to paying for healthcare under that bill based on our level of income.
Now, at the beginning of 2008, almost 100 courageous and thoughtful Members of the House of Representatives have endorsed H.R. 676. If you are one of those Members, please let me know. I want to thank you and ask you to work on getting hearings on the bill as soon as possible.
Small businesses are working at a terrible disadvantage as they strive to keep good employees and at the same time struggle to pay increasing healthcare premiums providing more unearned profits for the insurance companies.
Many have simply raised their premiums and co-pays and deductibles. As a result, many of the workers can no longer afford to have insurance. In fact the number of uninsured workers with full time jobs went up another two million people this year.
H.R. 676 is the only sensible answer. We can easily afford to pass this important legislation that would mean so much to all who live in this great land. In fact, we really can't afford to miss this opportunity to save money to help our people.
Please let me hear from you on this urgent issue of concern to me, my neighbors and my family.
Sincerely,
